A Thousand Blue Morpho Butterflies Arrive at Magic Wings July 1-31

Durham, NC -

This July the Museum of Life and Science’s Magic Wings Butterfly House will turn blue with a month-long release of over one thousand Blue Morpho butterflies from July 1–31, 2013.  Each day guests will have the opportunity to witness new Blue Morpho butterflies released into the conservatory as part of free daily programs.

49 children die of hyperthermia

According to Safe Kids North Carolina, in 2010, more than 49 children died while alone in vehicles. "And many parents don’t realize that kids can die of hyperthermia if left alone in vehicles when temperatures outside are as low as 70 degrees," comments Kelly Ransdell of Safe Kids.  

 

In an effort to increase awareness of the dangers of vehicular hyperthermia, Safe Kids North Carolina is launching its “S’more’ dangerous than you think…Never Leave your child alone in a car” safety campaign at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham on Tuesday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Safe Kids staff will bake s’mores inside the car’s interior to demonstrate how temperatures can quickly climb to dangerous levels. A large digital thermometer will also be used to simultaneously display the temperatures inside and outside of the parked vehicle.
