Global Cardboard Challenge at Museum of Life and Science
This fall the Museum of Life and Science will join countries across the globe in bringing imagination to life as a host site for the second annual Global Cardboard Challenge October 1-5, 2013. The Museum's weeklong challenge invites guests to create with cardboard in all shapes and sizes to build their own custom additions to this year's theme - Colossal Cardboard Imagination Machine. The building event will culminate with a reveal of the final room-size cardboard creation for all to see and add to on Saturday, October 5. Participants are invited to visit throughout the week to see how their creation has evolved and to add to the newest phase of the cardboard machine.

Set to be one of the largest Day of Play events in the Triangle area, guests will have plenty of building supplies thanks to the donation of a week's worth of cardboard - enough to fill an entire box truck - from national sponsor Mattress Firm. Unique building materials will also be supplied by local creative reuse center Scrap Exchange. MakeDo joints, pivots and cutting tools will be on hand for guests to connect their creations to the community-built cardboard machine throughout the entire week. Museum facilitators will also be available to assist and inspire young creators throughout the entire building period.

"We're proud to join host sites from across seventy countries in bringing this celebration of creativity and construction to the Triangle," remarked Exhibits Development Manager Elizabeth Fleming. "We've met so many families throughout the years who love our Keva blocks exhibit and design incredible structures - everything from five-foot towers to an entire boat regatta. This is the chance to take that drive to create, build and innovate and bring it to life on a much larger scale! With an entire truckload of supplies and a 200 square-foot room as your canvas, the only limiting factor is your imagination; it's as big as you imagine it!"
