FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Durham, NC - August 2013
From the latest robotic technology to state-of-the-art communications systems, the Museum of Life and Science welcomes engineers from across the state on Saturday, August 10, 2013 for a full day of hands-on activities exploring engineering principles. Now in its tenth year, Engineers Day uses dynamic interactive activities to bring core Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) principles to life.
Featured exhibitors include corporate partners Cisco Systems and IBM. Guests can explore Cisco's highly advanced comman and communications mobile unite, the NERV, and meet the team behind the technology. IBM will host a series of engineering workshops in conjunction with an Engineering Exploration Fair highlighting activities geared to spark an interest in science and engineering for all ages. A collection of Velomobiles, human-powered vehicles enclosed for aerodynamic advantage and protection from weather, will also be on display from IBM's community partners demonstrating the innovative engineering behind this novel form of transportation.
"Each year Engineers Day grows, highlighting so many different types of engineering in a fun, interactive way. This year we're exploring everything from electrical and computer engineering to chemical and structural opportunities" remarked Museum Coordinator for Events and Educational Resources, Nancy Dragotta-Muhl. "Our corporate partners, Cisco and IBM, play an integral role in opening the engineering door for these kids, many of whom never knew so many possibilities and technologies existed! We see kids begging for just one more robotics class or planning their own experiments to explore chemical engineering - it's truly an event where lifelong passions are formed!"
