On Friday, August 1 from 10:00 am - 4:00pm the Museum of Life and Science is celebrating National Watermelon Day with melon themed animal feeding programs. Guests are invited to bring whole watermelons for animal keepers to share with Museum animals and watch as black bears, ring-tailed lemurs, and farmyard animals swim for melons, sample melon "pops" and more. Animal Keepers will be on hand to discuss hot weather animal care and answer questions from guests. All Watermelon Day activities are included with general Museum admission.

"Our Watermelon Day programs give guests an up-close look at some of the techniques we use to keep our animals cool and the important role enrichment activities play in their overall health," said Animal Department Director, Sherry Samuels. "Tossing whole melons into the bear pool encourages them to swim for their treat and a whole melon with cut out shapes gives our lemurs a unique challenge - they can see and smell it but have to work to access the fruit!"
