Nanoscience: Exploring Holiday Scents
Can you smell cookies cooking in the oven from across the house? Test your nose using different concentrations of red peppermint and identify different holiday scents. Find out how sensitive your nose is to nano-sized scent particles!

Warm in the Winter
How do you keep warm in the winter? What about different animals? In this lab, we'll use a calorimeter and a cold environment to investigate the ways that we stay nice and toasty. Build an experimental coat out of different fabrics, then look at real animal coats under the microscope!
Tuesday, December 17 - Saturday, December 21
Many of us have changed our house lights to energy-efficient CFLs, but is there a good choice for decorative lights? In this activity, we will explore electricity and figure out what makes some lights more energy efficient.
About The Lab
Grab a pair of safety goggles and dive into a hands-on experiment at The Lab. In this exhibit, you’ll take on the role of a scientist and ask questions, make observations, and most important, get your hands dirty! Find out which sodas are the most acidic, what a scab looks like under a microscope, and what you can do to fight the flu.
While you’re here, engage with our team of EXPERT VOLUNTEERS and find out what it’s like to have a career in science.
Labs change weekly during the school year, and daily during the summer, so check out our CALENDAR PAGE to see our extended schedule.
We are so pleased to acknowledge the generous support received from the Biogen Idec Foundation in support of the Investigate Health Lab.
