Nikon Small World
Photography Exhibit
The Museum will host an exhibit of the winners of the 2012 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition. Come and see the top 20 breathtaking photos taken through a microscope. The Museum is the only North Carolina venue on the North American tour. Free with admission, located in Keva gallery.

Starting Saturday, April 20
Fresh fossils arrive
We’re filling up the Dinosaur Trail dig pit with tons of new fossil dirt. Three rail car loads are coming to the Museum thanks to our friends at Potash Corporation (Aurora, NC), Norfolk Southern Railway Company and the City of Durham.
Dig in to find and keep marine fossils 23 to 5 million years old.

We’re on a roll at the Museum! Join us as we spend the week exploring things that roll and spin, all while learning the science behind inertia. Clamber through a maze of tractor wheels, climb aboard trucks of all sizes, construct the biggest paper rollercoaster you’ve ever seen and more.

National Watermelon DayWhat's better on a
hot summer day than a slice of cold melon? Celebrate National
Watermelon Day with the us as we enjoy special watermelon themed
programing and treats at Sprout Café! Bring a melon to share with your
favorite Museum animals and learn more about the hot weather care of our
animals. Watch the keepers feed frozen melons and watermelon “pops” to
our animals then cool off with some melon experiments in the Lab!

Great bubbles, green bubbles, small bubbles, square bubbles! Become a bubbleologist as we study the science behind these soapy water spheres. Wolf Awareness Week
Meet an Animal Keeper at the museum's Wolf Overlook to learn about the very rare red wolf, native to North Carolina, of which there are only 300 alive in the world, with 190 in captivity. All are involved in the Species Survival Program which works in conjunction with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Red Wolf Recovery Program to help restore the species to its native habitat and increase public awareness of the benefits of biodiversity. Take home a wolf giveaway!
